Current Status - Announcement - New Server - Mailbox size
Current Status as of Tuesday 13 Nov 2012
Mailboxes have been successfully transferred from the old to the new server and the new server is on-line and we believe pretty much fully functional.
There was a problem with incoming mail containing DKIM headers. We believe that this is now be fixed (as of about 23:30 Monday evening) and email not previously delivered as a result of this is now flowing properly again. Apologies to those who've been affected by this.
On Sunday there were some initial problems:
- We have had some firewall issues which blocked most incoming email to the new server until around 11:15 on Sunday morning.
- There were also some issues with outgoing email from the new server. These were resolved as of about 12:30 on Sunday morning.
- The webmail interface on the new server sometimes displays an error message on the login screen but there do not appear to be any actual problems as a result, i.e. the error message is annoying but not harmful! We have logged a support call with the suppliers of atmail about this.
Apologies for these problems. They stemmed largely from our not having been able to test the new server using the full range of addresses it now serves until the old server had been taken off line.
Please note that the rest of this page has not been updated so it still refers to the changeover as still to take place. It is left here for the timebeing in case people want to refer back to any of it but we will eventually simply delete it. The email support page has been updated to refer to the new server and is now the main source of information about accessing it and email in general.
Version of announcement email sent to members
The following only affects those RaSP members with a @reach-village.co.uk, @swaffham-prior.co.uk or @upware-village.co.uk email address (a "village email address").
We will soon be replacing the RaSP email server; the work is currently planned to take place overnight from 22:00 on Saturday 10 November to around 08:00 on Sunday 11 November. During this period neither the old nor the new email server will be accessible: incoming mail will be queued and delivered when the new server is up and running, and no outgoing mail will be handled between these times, i.e. our server will not accept emails from clients (as if the network were down). Other internet access will not be affected.
Other than lack of service during the changeover, this will probably not affect you: the new server should require no changes to your setup and, apart from those cases described in the next paragraph, will be totally transparent with any mail stored on our old server being transferred to the new one. In case we miss transferring any email, the old server will remain on-line for a few months. No email will be deleted from it and no new email will be received by it. Please contact support as below for assistance accessing this, if required.
The only clients who will be affected are: those whose account hasn't been used in the last 12 months - in which case we won't transfer it to the new server; and those few whose stored mailbox is too big to transfer. The latter will each receive a separate email with instructions on how to work with us to trim your files, or move them across after the changeover date.
If you have any concerns or queries, please contact your village's support email, i.e. support@reach-village.co.uk, support@swaffham-prior.co.uk or support@upware-village.co.uk.
Accessing the New Server
As well as the standard services (http, pop3, imap), the new server also supports their secure, i.e. encrypted, equivalents (https, pop3s, imaps). If you want to use these (and some email programs may try to do so automatically), you will first need load the RaSP Certificate Authority certificate by clicking here. Most browsers will then import the certificate. You can do this at any time between now and first accessing the new server.
After the changeover is complete, the new server will be accessible at the same addresses as the old server so no reconfiguration of email clients should be needed. The exception to this is that webmail addresses will no longer include the :3000 component.
Prior to the changeover, the new server can be accessed by those with village email addresses for test purposes at http://srv3.raspnet.co.uk/mail or the https version https://srv3.raspnet.co.uk/mail (but, for this, remember to load the RaSP Certificate Authority certificate first). Note that until the changeover has taken place, there will be no email apart from a welcome message stored on the new server.
Mailbox Size on Old Server
You can find out your mailbox size on the old server by sending a special email message to it (accessing your mail via the web interface is described on the email support page):
To: MDaemon@reach-village.co.ukSubject: username,password
where username is your email address (e.g. joe.bloggs@swaffham-prior.co.uk) and password is the password you use to access the mailserver via the web interface or for pop/imap from you email program. The message content should simply be:
account infoi.e. just the words 'account info' on a single line. You should get a response of the form:
ACCOUNT INFO command recognizedAccount Information

Current number of email messages : 28
Current amount of disk space in use: 384375
The number you need is the last line, disk space in use. The number is in bytes, so in the example above the disk usage is 348kB. 50MB will be shown as 50000000, so you need to have a number below this for us to transfer your email as part of the main batch.
